Resolution of the Continental Congress establishing the Marine Corps - 10 November 1775
“…Be it resolved, that two Battalions of Marines be raised…and that they be enlisted and commissioned to serve for and during the present war between Great Britain and the colonies…that they be distinguished by the names of the first and second battalions of American Marines…”
Since that time Marines have paused on every November 10th to commemorate the founding-the birthday-of the Corps. In support of this tradition, Saint Albans High School also pauses and celebrates the birth of the Corps at a school wide assembly. The cadets perform a traditional parade formation, a distinguished former Marine provides a key note speech to the student body, and the Cadet Silent Drill Team performs.
